In July, the four DME MACs – NHIC, NGS, Noridian and CIGNA – published a local coverage determination (LCD) for positive airway pressure (PAP) devices for obstructive sleep apnea. Some criteria within the policy were scheduled for dates of service on or after September 1. According to notices, all four carriers will delay implementation of all criteria scheduled to take effect September 1, 2008. A revised LCD will be published in the near future and will include a new effective date for those criteria.
