Sleep Technologist Legislation Introduced in Washington, D.C.

Legislation was introduced in the Washington, D.C. City Council that proposes to define the practice of polysomnography and create a system of licensure for polysomnographic technologists. Additionally, the proposed bill gives the Board of Respiratory Care authority to regulate the practice of polysomnography and license polysomnographic technologists, and further spells out what respiratory-related procedures a licensed sleep technologist can perform.

While the AASM supports licensure legislation for sleep technologists, it does not support the current bill under consideration by the City Council, and is working closely with local members to amend the language in this bill. The AASM will keep you up to date with any new developments on this legislation.
