The Senate Appropriations Committee on Thursday, June 26, approved fiscal year 2009 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies legislation. The Committee provides $30.2 billion for the National Institutes of Health (NIH), which is a $1.025 billion increase over the fiscal year 2008 level and the budget request.

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine sent a letter to Sen. Robert Byrd (D-W. Va.), chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, indicating its support for an increase to the budget for the NIH. Visit https://aasm.org/blog to read a full version of the letter.

The AASM will keep members abreast of the appropriation legislation as it proceeds through the Senate and House of Representatives.
