Overview
This webinar, presented by Fred Turek, PhD, will cover how the causes of obesity and the complications that arise from it entail a combination of genetic, physiological, and behavioral factors. Interestingly, recent epidemiological and clinical studies indicate that the control of sleep-wake states may be an important factor in the regulation of energy metabolism. For example, numerous epidemiological studies have demonstrated a relationship between reduced sleep time and risk factors for obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.

Dr. Fred Turek is the Charles and Emma Morrison Professor for the Department of Neurobiology and Physiology at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Turek also serves as Director for the Center for Circadian Biology and Medicine.
