Are you looking to expand your professional knowledge, network with colleagues and contribute to the continued growth of the sleep medicine field? Consider serving on a standing committee or as a membership section chair. Volunteers provide an invaluable service to the AASM and its membership by contributing to initiatives and projects that are critical to the continued development of the field and also gain professional enrichment through the diverse activities of a committee or section.
The AASM has seven standing committees, one council and one task force engage in diverse activities such as developing reference guides and education materials, promoting sleep medicine as a discipline in medical schools and graduate medical education, and responding to issues related to reimbursement and coding.
Service as a committee, council or task force member is a one-year appointment with a maximum of a three-year consecutive term. Committee members are expected to participate in monthly conference calls and projects that meet the mandate of the committee. Committees report to the board of directors on a quarterly basis.
The AASM has eight membership sections. Sections provide a forum for members with focused interests to share those interests, discuss ideas, stimulate research and recommend programs that promote education through the AASM. Each section has a steering committee led by a chair.
Service as a section steering committee chair is a one-year appointment with a maximum of a three-year consecutive term. Section steering committee chairs are expected to participate in bi-monthly conference calls with their section steering committee and projects that meet the mandate of the section. In addition to leading regular meetings of the section steering committee, all section steering committee chairs serve on the Membership Sections Committee. The Membership Sections Committee meets via conference call on a monthly basis. The Membership Sections Committee reports to the board of directors on a quarterly basis.

All completed materials are due by February 26, 2014.
Appointments will be made by the committee on committees in March, approved by the board of directors in April and terms will commence in June at SLEEP 2014.
All appointments take effect in June at SLEEP 2014, the 28th Annual Meeting of the APSS.
