TARGET AUDIENCE
This course is intended for:
- Sleep medicine physicians, behavioral sleep medicine practitioners, business managers, lead or supervisory sleep technologists and all other sleep-related professionals interested in the business practices, economic, legal, political and social aspects of running a sleep disorders center
- Individuals who are considering opening a sleep disorders center, have recently opened a sleep disorders center, are employed within a sleep disorders center, or those who seek an update on current information and trends relative to the practice of sleep medicine
COURSE OVERVIEW
This course will review numerous aspects of the sleep center business. This will include development of a strategic plan and marketing; reimbursement issues such as negotiating with third-party payers and correct coding; legal issues that include scope of practice for sleep technologists, government fraud and abuse authority; the establishment of a compliance plan; Medicare operations and the move to electronic records. The program will address the activities that fall under the heading of “health system reform,” and participants will discuss the use of new technologies in a practice setting, with a focus on portable monitors. The course will help attendees effectively manage a sleep center that maintains a focus on effective patient care.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
- Discuss issues pertinent to the opening and operation of a sleep care facility
- Integrate new information and updates essential to the operation of a sleep disorders center; including reimbursement and coding, accreditation, electronic patient records and the role of sleep technologists
- Integrate new technologies in the diagnosis and management of sleep disorders
- Review legislative and regulatory issues, both new and on the horizon, that establish legal standards and may affect the operations of a sleep disorders center
