Course Description
The Scoring of Sleep workshop will provide participants with the necessary background and explanations to understand the rules of the AASM Manual for the Scoring of Sleep and Associated Events. The workshop provides a comprehensive review of all aspects of the sleep study scoring process beginning with a brief review of filter settings and electrode placement followed by an in-depth discussion of the scoring rules with illustrations of key points and tables to summarize scoring strategies.
Participants will have the opportunity to gauge their understanding of topics through a workshop pre-test, guided lectures including audience response questions, and a workshop post-test.
Target Audience
This course is intended for all sleep technicians and technologists from those just starting a career in sleep technology to those preparing for certification. It is also useful for physicians new to the field who wish to gain a basic review of scoring.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
- Recognize key waveforms for sleep scoring;
- Differentiate sleep stages;
- Detect arousals from sleep;
- Analyze sleep related breathing events;
- Identify common ECG abnormalities; and
- Distinguish abnormal EEG events.
