Important SMFDC Steering Committee Election SECOND Vote!

This afternoon, electronic ballots were sent to all ACGME Program Directors for the second election. Electronic voting will run be open from Wednesday, March 23 and close on Friday, April 1, 2011! Please be sure to vote before the poll closes.

As you are aware, the SMFDC recently held an election to fill the two open positions on the Steering Committee beginning June 2011. The SMFDC had an overwhelming interest in these positions. There were 13 individuals who applied and qualified for the election ballot (out of a possible 71!). However, only 23 of the 71 ACGME program directors voted. Due to the low number of voter responses and the large number of candidates, there were no clear winners for these positions. The current SMFDC Steering Committee feels it is vitally important that these elections be as fair as possible in order to represent Council members adequately. Therefore, the SMFDC Steering Committee has decided to hold another election. In this new election, given the number of candidates, we are asking each program director to vote for TWO separate candidates. We appreciate your understanding in this very unique situation. Moving forward, the Steering Committee appreciates that processes should be put into place given the enthusiasm and interest in these positions. In order to move things forward for this inaugural election, the SMFDC Steering Committee strongly encourages that all 71 program directors voice their opinions and help shape the future of sleep medicine fellowships by voting.
