Government Relations

As the only professional society dedicated exclusively to sleep medicine, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) is committed to representing the interests of sleep specialists in order to protect and promote the practice of sleep medicine and sleep research.

AASM members receive support from the government relations department on issues related to health policy, reimbursement and practice management. The AASM also monitors legislation and regulations that may impact the practice of sleep medicine both nationally and at the local level.

Important federal issues that the AASM addresses include Medicare reimbursement, medical liability reform and government funding for sleep research. The AASM is the leading voice for the field when individual states consider policies that will affect the licensure of sleep technologists.
