The AASM thanks all of the members who supported the AASM PAC by attending the AASM PAC Breakfast at SLEEP 2013! More than 50 members pledged to support the AASM’s efforts to represent the interests of sleep medicine on a federal level.

California state exchange reveals premium rates and participating insurers

California recently announced a premium rate structure for health plans offered through the state health insurance exchange. The exchange, called Covered California, announced that that 13 insurers will participate although three prominent health insurers -- Aetna, Cigna and UnitedHealth -- will not participate in the exchange next year.

Members who contribute $50 to the AASM PAC can attend the AASM PAC Breakfast scheduled for Tuesday, June 4 from 7:00-8:00 AM at the Baltimore Hilton Hotel Holiday Ballroom #1-2. AASM members who donate during the meeting will also be eligible to attend.

Senators Baucus and Hatch ask for advice on replacing SGR

In a recent letter to health letter to health care providers, Senators Max Baucus (D-Mont.) and Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) sought input on how to permanently replace the sustainable growth rate (SGR) formula. Congress routinely has passed legislation to delay cuts called for by the SGR, but physicians face substantial reductions in their Medicare reimbursements each time the "doc fix" expires. The most recent doc fix delayed the cuts until January 1, 2014, at which time physicians face about a 25% reduction to Medicare reimbursement rates.
