Construction on the new headquarters for the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) has commenced, with an official groundbreaking ceremony held Thursday, July 9, 2009, to mark the occasion. Read the remarks of President Dr. Clete Kushida by downloading a copy of his speech.

Past President Dr. Mary Susan Esther announced plans for the building in April.  The building’s design calls for a modern, state-of-the-art facility that will allow the AASM to accommodate current and anticipated staff needs with increased space and improved technology, and will enable the AASM to conduct some programs on-site, which will be a long-term cost benefit for the entire membership. Recognizing the importance of being responsible to our environment, we are working with Wight to ensure the design for headquarters will incorporate elements of the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program, including energy efficiency and water conservation.
