The AASM has recently published three reference manuals that address important stages in the training of sleep technologists: 1) the Technologist’s Guide to Performing Sleep Studies provides step-by-step instructions on how to obtain an artifact-free study that conforms to published standards; 2) the Technologist’s Handbook for Understanding and Implementing the AASM Manual for the Scoring of Sleep and Associated Events prepares the technologist for the task of scoring the sleep recording and preparing data for the sleep specialist to use in determining the patient’s correct diagnosis; 3) and the Technologist’s Introduction to Sleep Disorders allows the technologist to put the sleep study in the broader context of sleep medicine by providing an accessible version of the International Classification of Sleep Disorders, Second Edition.

While each of these manuals may be purchased separately through the AASM Online Store, the AASM has recently bound the three publications together to create the Essentials of Sleep Technology, a comprehensive reference manual that can be used as a training resource for sleep technologists and as a resource for experienced technologists throughout their careers. The publication provides technologists with step-by-step instructions in an easy-to-learn format that includes case studies, diagrams and study questions for review.

The Essentials of Sleep Technology may be purchased through the AASM Online Store. Please note that due to the relocation of the AASM National Headquarters, orders made in early June 2010 will incur a delay in processing; specific dates for order shipment during this time will be available on the Online Store in the coming weeks. Questions regarding product orders may be directed to the AASM by e-mail to orders@aasm.org or by phone to 708-492-0930.
