The NIH Basic Behavioral and Social Science Opportunity Network (OppNet) has issued new funding opportunity announcements (FOAs). The “Basic Mechanisms Influencing Behavioral Maintenance” (R01) FOA may be of interest to sleep/circadian researchers studying mechanisms/processes that facilitate or impede the transition from newly learned, effortful, and goal-directed behavior to less effortful, automatic, and essentially non-goal-directed behaviors more easily maintained over time. The application due date is Oct. 14, 2010. Get complete details in the FOA (RFA-HL-11-035) on the NIH website.

Sleep and circadian topics of interest related to the “Psychosocial Stress and Behavior: Integration of Behavioral and Physiological Processes (R01)” and “Development of Comprehensive and Conceptually-based Measures of Psychosocial Stress (R21)” FOAs may include the development of conceptually-focused and comprehensive measures of psychosocial stress that can be applied across species and across the lifespan; and the goal of advancing our understanding of the psychosocial stressors that are most relevant to disease, and provide comparability across studies. The application due date for both grants is Oct. 14, 2010. Get complete details in the FOAs (RFA-HL-11-033 and RFA-HL-11-034) on the NIH website.
