On Nov. 10, 2011, the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) will administer the final sleep medicine certification exam under the Practice Pathway, allowing physicians to apply for the exam without completion of a formal ACGME-accredited sleep medicine fellowship training program. Physicians currently certified through the ABIM, American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA), American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM), American Board of Otolaryngology (ABOto), American Board of Pediatrics (ABP), and American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) may be eligible to sit for this exam. Visit your Board’s website for more information and to apply.

In response to the expected high interest in this final exam under the Practice Pathway, the AASM has developed several resources for individuals preparing to take the exam. In addition to Board Review courses, reference texts and online practice exams, the AASM has announced a live, full-day Board Review Practice Exam course that will be held twice in the weeks prior to the exam. Individuals may now register for this course, which will be held Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, or Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011, at the AASM national office in Darien, Illinois.

During these full-day courses, limited to 80 participants at each course, faculty will present and discuss nearly 100 sample exam questions. Attendees will have the opportunity to utilize an audience response system to test their knowledge, listen to an explanation of the correct answer for each question and receive references for further review. Chaired by Teofilo Lee-Chiong, MD, this course will be an essential review tool for individuals wishing to gauge their exam preparations leading up to the exam in November.

For more information about these courses, or to register, visit the Sleep Education Series portion of the AASM website at https://aasm.org/events/. Questions may be directed to the AASM meetings department by e-mail to education@aasm.org or by phone to 630-737-9700.
