The AASM recently submitted comments to the National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health (NACOSH) on the importance of effective sleep as a vital element in achieving the goal of developing and maintaining safe workplaces.  The AASM urged NACOSH and its Subgroup on Injury and Illness Prevention Programs to take a serious look at the undisputed implications between fatigue and workplace safety.  The AASM offered to work with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Department of Labor in addressing sleepiness in workplace safety standards and implementing fatigue mitigation programs.
