Register for the AASM Compliance Program Development Workshop
American Academy of Sleep Medicine
Thursday, August 18, 2011
Now more than ever, sleep medicine is on the radar of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Office of the Inspector General (OIG). Inclusion of sleep services in the 2011 OIG Work Plan, and the recent distribution of Comparative Billing Reports (CBRs) to sleep providers by a CMS contractor, confirm that CMS and the OIG are watching the billing frequency and appropriateness of sleep services. The AASM strongly recommends that all sleep facilities develop a compliance program, including regular file audits, to help ensure appropriate documentation and billing.
AASM Members and their coding and billing staff are encouraged to attend the upcoming Compliance Program Development Workshop on Sept. 16 at the AASM national office in Darien, IL. This intensive workshop is designed to help sleep physicians and their staff to interpret the recently distributed CBRs. The workshop also will provide attendees with step-by-step instructions for reviewing national and local sleep policies and auditing documentation in patient files. Workshop attendees will walk away with the knowledge and resources necessary to develop a compliance program for their facility.
