CMS set to release Final Rule on ICD-10 delay

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is expected to publish a final rule which will announce a delay in the compliance date for ICD-10.  As the AASM previously announced, CMS published a proposed rule in April which recommended a one-year delay to the implementation of ICD-10. The new date of compliance would be Oct. 2014. CMS solicited comment on the proposed delay.

In an Aug. 9 article, Health Data Management reported that CMS has provided the final rule to the Office of Management and Budget for their review prior to publication. This is a required step prior to the rule’s publication in the Federal Register. The AASM will keep members updated on changes to the ICD-10 compliance date in future editions of the Weekly Update.
