The American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) has updated the exam blueprint for the fall 2013 sleep medicine certification examination offered by the ABIM and several other member boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). The blueprint is a table of specifications that determines the content of the exam. Developed by the exam test committee, the blueprint is based on analyses of current practices and understanding of the relative importance of the clinical problems in Sleep Medicine. Candidates sitting for the exam also can review the blueprint changes, a comparison of exam content percentages between the previous exams and the fall 2013 exam.

The sleep medicine certification exam is composed of single-best-answer multiple-choice questions, predominantly describing patient scenarios that occur in practice settings. An exam tutorial that includes examples of ABIM exam question format also is available on the ABIM website.
