The U.S. Census Bureau recently released data assessing the health insurance coverage rates in all 50 states and in each of the nation's 3,140 counties. The Census' 2011 Small Area Health Insurance Estimates determines the annual changes in health insurance coverage from 2008 to 2011.
The data shows that state uninsured rates for residents under age 65 ranged from 4.9% in Massachusetts to 25% in Texas. The report also found that uninsured rates from 2010 to 2011:
- Remained constant in 29 states and the District of Columbia;
- Decreased in 19 states; and
- Increased in two states.
