The AASM was recently notified that UnitedHealthcare (United) has dropped a number of physician providers from its Medicare Advantage plans. United notified physicians of this change by letter. Contract termination is effective in early 2014. Reports indicate that United contract terminations are without cause and appeals rights are not clarified in the letters. The AASM is trying to ascertain how widespread the contract terminations are.
Members who received a contract termination letter from United are encouraged to contact the AASM at coding@aasm.org with information. The AASM is particularly interested in the number of sleep physicians who have had their contracts terminated as well as the estimated patient population this will effect.
