A new study found that both average and maximum air leak were associated with the development of central sleep apnea during continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) titration, particularly in subjects using a nasal mask. A commentary on the study emphasizes that sleep medicine professionals should “pay close attention to the mask interface and its leakage during the PAP titration study, when trying to resolve the complexities of complex sleep apnea.”  The study results and commentary are published in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine.
