This month, the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) published its annual Work Plan describing the projects and reviews it will undertake in 2014.  Sleep has been featured throughout the OIG Work Plan in recent years. Two reports published in 2013 reflected the results of OIG projects outlined it the work plan in past years: the October 2013 Polysomnography Billing Report; and the June 2013 CPAP Supplies Replacement Schedules Report. The 2014 Work Plan describes only one sleep-related project.  The OIG is reviewing billing and payments of sleep-testing procedures in sleep disorders clinics. The review will include an assessment of the appropriateness of testing. The OIG anticipates publication of the report on this review in fiscal year 2014.
