WESTCHESTER, Ill.Nir Peled, MD, PhD, was recently named an honorable mention for the American Academy of Sleep Medicine’s (AASM) Young Investigator Award for 2007.

“On behalf of the AASM, I congratulate Dr. Peled on his selection for honorable mention for the Young Investigator Award,” said Alejandro D. Chediak, MD, new AASM president. “Dr. Peled is being recognized for his ongoing commitment to enhancing the public’s understanding of obstructive sleep apnea and the characteristics of this sleep disorder. His dedication to the field of sleep medicine makes him worthy of this honorable mention. I am confident that Dr. Peled will continue to positive influence the direction of sleep research in the years ahead.”

Dr. Peled will be acknowledged for this achievement at SLEEP 2007, the 21st Annual Meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies.

Nir Peled, MD, PhD, is a fellow in pulmonary medicine at Tel-Aviv University in Israel and a sleep medicine specialist at the Israel Institute of Technology’s (IIT) sleep laboratory. Dr. Peled is a member of several Israeli-based professional medical organizations, an active participant in sleep conferences and lectures in Israel, and involved in the tutoring of sleep medicine to medical students.

He received a medical degree, as well as a PhD, from IIT.

SLEEP 2007 is a four-day scientific meeting that will feature an international body of over 5,000 leading researchers and clinicians in the field of sleep medicine.

More than 1,000 research abstracts will be presented at SLEEP 2007, a joint venture of the AASM and the Sleep Research Society. SLEEP 2007 will bring to light new findings that enhance the understanding of the processes of sleep and aid the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders such as insomnia, narcolepsy and sleep apnea.

AASM is a professional membership organization dedicated to the advancement of sleep medicine and sleep-related research.
