UPDATE: Effective Thursday Aug 14 the CMS Open Payments website was reactivated
The Open Payments website, which manufacturers of drugs, devices, biologicals and medical supplies use to report transfers of value to physicians and teaching hospitals as required under the Physician Payments Sunshine Act, has been temporarily shut down. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) explained their decision was required in order “to investigate a reported issue.”
CMS has not indicated whether the temporary website shutdown will result in a delay to the public data release scheduled for September 30, 2014. CMS continues to encourage providers to register on the Open Payments website, but it will not be possible for providers to review their data until the system reopens.
