Now available online is the testimony of National Institutes of Health Director Francis S. Collins, MD, PhD, who presented the fiscal year (FY) 2016 NIH budget request to the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, HHS, Education, and Related Agencies. The request of $31.311 billion, which is $1 billion or 3.3 percent above the enacted FY 2015 level, would support an estimated 1,227 more research project grants than in 2015. It also includes $200 million for the new Precision Medicine Initiative, which Collins recently discussed in a 10-minute audio interview with the managing editor of the New England Journal of Medicine.
