A review in the March issue of the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine summarizes the prevalence, pathogenesis, diagnosis, and management of sleep disorders in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality. According to the authors, the presence of comorbid sleep disorders may worsen the already diminished quality of life in COPD patients and increase the odds of several other adverse health outcomes including higher mortality.
