As of this morning, the U.S. House of Representatives has approved common-sense legislation to permanently repeal Medicare’s Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR). President Obama has expressed his approval of the House bill (H.R. 2), meaning that the long-awaited repeal of the SGR faces just one last obstacle: the U.S. Senate.

The House has set aside partisan gridlock to protect physicians and the seniors they serve. The Senate now holds the fate of physicians in its hands. If the Senate fails to act, physicians will face a 21% cut in Medicare payments starting April 1. With less than one week until the SGR unleashes irreparable damage, the time for action is now!

You can take two steps today to promote the repeal of the SGR:

1. Sign our letter and contact your Senators today. Urge them to vote to repeal the SGR.

2. Donate to the AASM Political Action Committee, which tirelessly works to support lawmakers who champion intelligent health policy.

Although Congress has delayed resolving this issue for the past two decades, a full repeal of the SGR is finally in reach. Physician voices are needed now more than ever. Repealing the SGR is sensible; you cannot afford for this legislation to fail at the finish line. Support the AASM PAC today and urge your Senators to repeal the SGR.
