A study in the July issue of the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine found that more than 60 percent of nightmare sufferers had never discussed nightmares with a clinician. The study also found that less than one-third of individuals with clinically significant nightmare symptoms believed that nightmares were treatable. According to the authors, the results suggest that training in assessing nightmares is warranted for physicians and nurses.
