The National Healthy Sleep Awareness Project has developed and proposed questions for inclusion in the next Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, the nation’s premier system of health-related telephone surveys that collect state data about U.S. residents. A paper describing the development of the sleep health surveillance questions is published in the September issue of the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine. Researchers in the sleep field are encouraged to make use of the BRFSS and other CDC surveillance data and to query and publish results of analyses of sleep health and risk for morbidity and mortality in many health domains.

Funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Healthy Sleep Awareness Project is led by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine in collaboration with the Sleep Research Society and other partners. Learn more at www.projecthealthysleep.org.
