Seattle School Board approves later start times for high schools and middle schools

This week the Seattle School Board approved later start times for its high schools and most of its middle schools beginning next school year. Seattle Public Schools is now one of the largest school districts in the nation where teenagers will start classes later than 8:30 a.m., reports The Seattle Times. The city’s public high schools and most middle schools will start class at 8:45 a.m. next year, while most elementary schools will start earlier at 7:55 a.m.

The vote followed a four-year campaign led by parents, teachers and local sleep scientists.
