A bill guaranteeing health care for 9/11 first responders, the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, expired in September 2015. If Congress refuses to act by the end of the year to continue the World Trade Center (WTC) Health Program, these American heroes will lose their health care for their 9/11 related injuries and illnesses, including sleep apnea.

The AASM is requesting that you contact your Representative and Senators today to advocate for the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Reauthorization Act (HR 1786). Just over 14 years ago, 9/11 first responders were there when the nation needed them most. Now they are in need of your help, and AASM members across the country must advocate for the sleep health of all 63,000 9/11 first responders and 8,942 civilians suffering from the devastating consequences of the attacks.

The AASM is home to 417 members in New York and 214 members in New Jersey– many of whom were able to see the destruction and horror of the September 11, 2001, attacks firsthand. Today, as a concerned sleep physician, please stand with 9/11 first responders as they fight for their basic health care needs.

Visit the website of the Citizens for the Extension of the James Zadroga Act to locate and write to your House and Senate representatives.
