In the fourth quarter of 2015, contributions to the AASM Political Action Committee (PAC) successfully outpaced those from 2014.

As a commitment to the future of the sleep medicine field and a prosperous New Year– from October to New Year’s Eve– AASM members generously donated a combined $8,130 to the AASM PAC.

As you were ringing in the New Year with your loved ones, American politicians began to shift their campaigns into full gear. Lawmakers are now focusing on two quickly-approaching dates: the February 1 Iowa Caucuses and the November 8 general election.

This year, Americans will do much more than elect the 45th President of the United States. A third of the U.S. Senate and the entire House of Representatives also will be facing an election.

Last election, on behalf of sleep specialists nationwide, the AASM PAC strategically donated to 30 sleep-friendly, successful congressional campaigns. Now, with 2014’s victories behind us, I am confident that our PAC can set the bar even higher and dream bigger as Americans head to the polls this fall.

After careful consideration, the AASM PAC has created a game plan to support a sleep-smart Congress in 2016. You can read through our strategy and goals on the AASM PAC page on the Evolve Sleep website.

The AASM PAC and our congressional coalition must continue to grow. The sleep field needs your help, and I am asking every AASM member to support sleep medicine by making a $100 contribution.

Start the New Year on the right foot and join the movement for forward-thinking sleep medicine policy. I encourage you to make a donation to the AASM PAC today.

Sincerely,

David Kuhlmann, MD, FAASM
