Takeda Pharmaceuticals North America, Inc. has announced a grant of $75,000 to the American Sleep Medicine Foundation (ASMF) for an additional sleep research year for graduates of Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited sleep medicine fellowships.

Sleep medicine specialists have little exposure to research during their fellowship year. The Takeda grant will provide salary support to train future academic sleep medicine specialists by having them engage in one year of basic or clinical sleep research, including study design, data collection, monitoring, statistical analysis and authoring of manuscripts. The award recipient will be recognized at SLEEP 2008. A grant review committee appointed by the ASMF Board of Directors will evaluate the proposals to determine the award recipients. Factors in the consideration include the presence of resources necessary to complete the study (including the commitment of the fellowship director/research mentor), soundness and feasibility of the research plan, and the relationship between the funds provided and expected outcomes (value for the grant).

The application form for the Takeda Pharmaceuticals Grant for Sleep Medicine Post-Fellowship Research Year is available on the newly launched ASMF Web site www.discoversleep.org/AwardTraining.aspx.

Candidates must complete the application process before Tuesday, January 15, 2008.
