The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) is inviting comments on proposed revisions to Section VI of the Common Program Requirements, which includes proposed changes to resident work hour limits.

While the revised requirements preserve a weekly limit of 80 hours, averaged over a four-week period, they also remove the existing requirement limiting first-year residents to 16 hours of consecutive time on-task. For all residents the proposed requirements include a limit on consecutive time on-task of 24 hours, plus four hours to manage transitions in care.

The AASM will be submitting comments to the ACGME, and members of the sleep medicine community are encouraged to submit individual feedback by the Dec. 19 deadline. Comments must be submitted to cprrevision@acgme.org using the review and comment form.
