Earlier this week the White House released a federal budget that proposes to reduce funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) by $5.8 billion in fiscal year 2018. The proposed budget includes a $575 million reduction in funding for the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), which houses the National Center on Sleep Disorders Research (NCSDR). We must unite to support sleep and circadian research.

The AASM’s bi-partisan political action committee (AASM PAC) is your advocate on Capitol Hill, making sure that our lawmakers recognize the value of sleep medicine and sleep research. However, the harsh reality of our political system is that it takes money to influence policy.

Recently you received a message from the AASM PAC announcing its “Drive to 95” fundraising campaign. Help raise $95,000 before the beginning of the fall congressional session on Sept. 5 (9/5) by making a donation of $95 or more.

I encourage all AASM members in the U.S. to join the Drive to 95 by making a donation today.

I thank you in advance for your support.

Sincerely,

Ronald D. Chervin, MD, MS
AASM President
