Course Overview
This course will begin with a discussion of the neuropharmacology of sleep. Subsequent lectures by recognized leaders in the field will review drug treatments for the entire range of sleep disorders, including standard treatments and treatments under development.
Target Audience
This course is intended for sleep medicine professionals seeking a review of the current pharmacologic treatments for sleep disorders, including insomnia, disorders of excessive sleepiness and parasomnias.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of the course, participants should be able to:
- Explain the pharmacology of sleep-wake control;
- Discuss the efficacy and safety of hypnotics;
- Analyze the efficacy and safety of stimulants; and
- Review pharmacologic treatments of parasomnias, sleep related breathing disorders and circadian rhythm disorders

Enjoy downtown Chicago while attending this course. The AASM national office is located in Darien, Illinois, a western suburb of Chicago. On the evening of October 1, 2011, attendees can add an optional fee for roundtrip transportation from the Marriott Burr Ridge to downtown Chicago. The fee is $25.00 roundtrip. A minimum of 20 people must register for this transportation. Individuals who register for this course add-on will receive additional information/details prior to the course.

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
The Pharmacology and Sleep Medicine course has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Their Elements of the ACCME by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
The AMA Council on Medical Education mandates that accredited providers only offer AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ to physicians. The AASM will issue non-physicians a letter of attendance for activities designated for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.
The American Academy of Sleep Medicine designates the Pharmacology and Sleep Medicine course as a live activity for a maximum of 11.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
