Workshops in Sleep Medicine: CPAP Adherence October 16, 2011 AASM National Office Darien, Illinois Practice parameters and regulatory agencies have described CPAP adherence as a critical factor in the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea. This workshop explored the multifactorial aspects of non-adherence, including mechanical, behavioral and social issues. Faculty offered practical suggestions for improving compliance and helped participants develop their own strategies for increasing patient treatment adherence. Scoring of Sleep Workshop April 16, 2011 AASM National Office Darien, Illinois The Scoring of Sleep workshop provided participants with the necessary background and explanations to understand the rules of the AASM Manual for the Scoring of Sleep and Associated Events. Sleep Center Manager Boot Camp April 4-7, 2011 AASM National Office Darien, Illinois Every sleep center should have an individual on staff who possesses an understanding of the unique business challenges that are present in an increasingly complex and competitive market. This course provided attendees with the essential information and tools to effectively manage a sleep center. The intensive 3-½ day boot camp increased attendees’ competency in the areas of: sleep center policies and procedures; legal, coding and reimbursement issues; sleep center business practices; and best practices in sleep center management. Current Topics in Sleep Medicine February 18-19, 2011 Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines La Jolla, California During this course, an expert faculty discussed the state-of-the-art of sleep medicine. Each year, the course covers several “hot topics” that go beyond the standard practice of sleep medicine to explore diagnostic, therapeutic and technologic issues for sleep clinicians. Interpreting Sleep Studies October 22-24, 2010 AASM National Office Darien, Illinois This course included discussion of polysomnography, portable monitoring and actigraphy. Sessions focused on clinical signs, indications for testing, interpretation of tests and development of treatment plans. The course was case-based, using index cases to develop guidelines for the use of testing modalities. Additional sessions used a workshop format to review the scoring of sleep stages and events with extensive use of record samples.
