Insomnia
Greetings AASM members! In the constantly evolving field of sleep
medicine, the insomnia section seeks not only to keep up with the chang-
es, but to assist our members in their own educational clinical growth. In
this insomnia section newsletter, we offer some ideas about how we can
continue to redefine our research, educational, and clinical mission to
the current needs of the society.
One of our goals for the Insomnia section meeting that took place
in Baltimore was to solicit feedback from the attending clinicians and
researchers. A theme emerged: to develop a “well-rounded” sleep clinic
with adequate education about insomnia and its treatment. Attendees
were seeking more educational and self-help resources about insomnia
for their own knowledge and their patient’s. Therefore, in this newsletter,
Dr. Rebecca Scott provides the most up-to-date resources for the patient
and Dr. Fahd Zarrouf reviews up-to-date resources for the insomnia
clinician. Though there are changes on the horizon with respect to the
ICSD-3, Drs. Rose and Conroy remind our clinicians to not forget the
data supporting the most effective treatments we have for insomnia.
Last, Dr. Chen discussed the utility of having our fellow nurse practi-
tioners and physician assistants involved in sleep centers and how they
can help us develop our well-rounded sleep clinics.

Help Resources

often spent countless hours researching insomnia and treatments. With
the click of a mouse, one could literally lose days and nights in search
of better sleep. And while the blind Google search can yield useful and
powerful information, too often the Internet is wrought with misinfor-
