Seniors Sleep Campaign
AASM invites members to join the Seniors Sleep Campaign to pass a federal bill that will decrease the number of seniors who have obstructive sleep apnea and remain untreated.
12-18 million Americans with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) remain untreated. Factors such as the lack of patient awareness and lack of sleep illness screening leaves seniors particularly at risk. Untreated OSA can increase seniors’ risk of having hypertension, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and stroke. AASM’s Seniors Sleep Campaign addresses this gap in care through a federal bill and national pledge program.
Seniors Sleep is a bill that would expand the Welcome to Medicare benefit to include a sleep apnea screening to identify individuals with a high pre-test probability of OSA. The purpose is to increase preventive sleep care for individuals entering the Medicare program. AASM is inviting you to join the campaign by submitting your Seniors Sleep Pledge.
