Board Review for the Sleep Specialist is a two-and-a-half-day course during which an expert faculty of basic researchers, academicians and clinicians at the forefront of the field will present a broad review of sleep medicine. The topics covered mirror the ABMS sleep medicine examination content areas.

Interpreting Sleep Studies
October 22-24, 2010

This course will include discussion of polysomnography, portable monitoring and actigraphy. Sessions will focus on clinical signs, indications for testing, interpretation of tests and development of treatment plans. The course will be case-based, using index cases to develop guidelines for the use of testing modalities. Additional sessions will use a workshop format to review the scoring of sleep stages and events with extensive use of record samples.

Pharmacology and Sleep Medicine

This course will begin with a discussion of the neuropharmacology of sleep. Subsequent lectures by recognized leaders in the field will review drug treatments for the entire range of sleep disorders, including standard treatments and treatments under development.

Comprehensive Evaluation and Management Coding

Workshops in Sleep Medicine: Portable Monitoring
November 6, 2010
AASM National Office
Darien, Illinois

This course will cover topics ranging from the AASM guidelines on identification of patients appropriate for portable monitoring to scoring of portable studies. An interactive session will review electrode application and preparation of the patient for the recording. Use of positive airway pressure treatment will also be discussed.

Workshops in Sleep Medicine: The Sleep Apnea Examination
November 7, 2010
AASM National Office
Darien, Illinois

This course will provide didactic sessions on the features of the upper airway that are risk factors for obstructive sleep apnea and will describe methods of upper airway assessment. Sessions will review areas that are the focus for surgical treatment of apnea. Finally, faculty will guide participants in performing the sleep apnea examination.


Weather Cancellation Policy

In the event that a registrant is unable to attend a course due to severe weather forcing airline cancellations or airport closures, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine will apply 50 percent of the individual’s registration fees toward another AASM course held within 12 months.

Within 30 days after the course the registrant must provide documentation from the airport or airline confirming the inability to travel due to severe weather.

This policy does not apply to the SLEEP Annual Meeting; the length and nature of this event provides registrants sufficient time to make alternate travel arrangements to attend a portion of the event.
