This slide set was designed to serve as the foundation for a teaching curriculum on recognizing and treating sleep apnea. It is intended to be a resource for lecturers presenting to audiences with a broad range of experience and training including medical students, medicine and family practice residents, primary care physicians and physicians trained in sleep disorders medicine. It contains information on the pathophysiology and consequences of sleep apnea. It includes the clinical presentation of sleep apnea and diagnostic criteria. The role of polysomnography is discussed. Treatments are reviewed in detail.
