In 2015 the American Academy of Sleep Medicine is celebrating its 40th anniversary. Since its formation in 1975, the AASM and its many dedicated members have helped build the field of sleep medicine from the ground up, establishing sleep as a recognized and respected medical subspecialty. It’s important to not just reflect on the past accomplishments, but to plan ahead for the future.
The U.S. health care system is changing and the AASM and its members must work together to ensure that the sleep medicine field remains viable. With your membership we can work to reconfigure the field of sleep medicine for this new era of patient-centered, value based care. AASM membership dues are vital for funding research and development efforts such as new quality measures for sleep disorder evaluation, sleep medicine telehealth protocols and evolving accreditation standards to reflect new models of clinical practice.
